Do you often feel less than motivated? Do you find your motivation then just as quickly as it came, it leaves? Here are some ways that might help keep that fire burning:
- Act like it. If you don’t feel motivated or enthusiastic then act like it. The strange thing is that you will actually start to feel motivated or enthusiastic for real.
- Each morning, ask yourself some questions. What am I happy about in my life right now? What am I excited about in my life right now?
- Set a large and very specific goal. This will motivate you much more than small goals. A big goal has a big effect and can create a lot of motivation.
- Compare yourself with yourself and not with others. Comparing what you have and your results to what other people have and have accomplished can really kill your motivation. There are always people ahead of you so focus on you and on YOUR results.
- Remember your successes. Let them flow through your mind instead of your failures. Write down your successes and keep a journal since it’s easy to forget your successes.
- Be inspired by the people you want to be like. Talk to them, learn from them and discover what they do when faced with difficulties or challenges.
- Get out of your comfort zone. Face your challenges head on to get a real boost of motivation.
- Don’t fear failure. Instead redefine it as feedback and as a natural part of a successful life. “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” ~ Michael Jordan
- Write down your goals and reasons for working towards them. Tape them to your computer or your bathroom mirror so you can be reminded throughout the day and it becomes easier to stay on track and stay focused.
- Learn to think more positively most of the time. Learn to let to go of negative thoughts before they have a chance to take hold of you.
- Think outside the box. Don’t imagine the future from the box of what you have now. Just because your mind is in a box of previous experiences doesn’t mean this is your future because your possibilities are much larger.
- Make each day count. Life really is short so don’t waste a moment of it and do something each day that you can be proud of no matter how small it might be.
